Stoney Beach

Part of Canada's Ocean Playground

As you approach Lawrencetown Beach, you cross over the Lawrencetown River Bridge and enter the community of East Lawrencetown. And just before you head up the hill to the Tea House, you will pass a parking lot on the right side of Marine Drive (hgwy 207). This is the parking lot for Stoney Beach.

The Beach

As you can see in the above photo, Stoney Beach is surrounded by, well, a lot of stones. But, it also has a lot of sand. Unfortunately, the sand is only useable when the tide is out. When the tide is in, the sandy part of the beach is completely under water. So, if you are planning to relax at Stoney Beach, be sure to check the tide tables first (which you can do here.

Also be aware that swimming is not recommended at Stoney Beach. The Lawrencetown River mouth makes up part of the beach, and the currents there are extremely strong whenever the tide is on the move - the whole of the lake drains alongside this beach.

Kite Surfing

This beach is extremely popular for Kite Surfing. That's because when the tide is moving either in, or out, there is a large area of shallow water that is deep enough to Kite Surf on, but shallow enough to be easy to navigate. Of course, the winds are also very co-operative. It is not uncommon to see several kite surfers all at the same time on Stoney Beach
