According to the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Labratory (AOML), the Atlantic hurricane season is officially from 1 June to 30 November. And, while June 1st has been the traditional start of the Atlantic hurricane season for decades, the end date has shifted outward. It was once October 31st, then November 15th, and is currently November 30th. And, the greatest average number of recorded hurricanes occurs midway between these two dates - from mid-August to mid-September.
