Hunting Rules and Regulations

You may have found that as a resident of East Lawrencetown the area continues to grow in its population. In just the last couple of years, one can see more and more lights along shores of Lawrencetown Lake at night. This increase in residential development is, of course, beginning to collide with the hunters in the area.

During November and December, one may frequently hear gun fire during their morning coffee. So, in the hope of aiding you as to the rules and dates for hunting, we provide some links here.

You can find the hunting regulations here. Some of the pages of interest are:

  • 93 - which denotes that "a shotgun loaded with shot [can be discharged] within 182 m of a dwelling"
  • 92 - that allows for discharge of a firearm "between one-half hour after sunset" and "one-half hour before sunrise"

The dates for hunting game can be found here, and for birds, the dates are here (Lawrencetown Beach is in zone 2).

If you feel there has been any violation of the rules, you are encouraged to contact authorities. As noted on Environment Canada's website:

"Hunting violations may be reported to the Canadian Wildlife Service office, your local RCMP detachment, Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-565-2224, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)."

Proposed Cell Tower

The proposal made by Bragg Communications for a cell tower on Leslie Road has been modified, and is now for a cell tower to be installed on the Crowell Road. There is a page with all the local contact information here.
